Merek was born to a common family of farmers in a what was once considered a nice little town in the Southern Sword Coast. Though after the events of the Dragon Hoard and the riste of Tiamat the town had suffered much. His mother and father were happy to have another son as farmers rarely have enough free labor. As Merek grew he followed in his older brothers path. He worked the farm and did odd jobs around town to help get greenest back on it’s feet assuming his life would begin and end in the same place. Then one day he accompanied his father and brother to deliver some farming goods a bardge in Berdusk. As soon as Merek saw the busy Chionthar river he was entangled by wonderlust. The prospect of working the river latched onto young Merek who often found himself thinking of a life on the water.
As soon as Merek was old enough to make his own way he left his family home in Greenest and set off to become a bargemen. He worked locally up and down the river for some months. During this time he heard of the great Sea of the world that could take months even years to travl. He immediately knew he had to see this for himself. After several months working he wrote to his family that he would be making a one way trip to Baldurs Gate to pursue a sailing position. He learned as much as he could about sailing while in Baldurs Gate working the docks in anyway possible. I little over a year from his move from Greenest Merek found his way to sailing vessel. It was a short jant that was short handed he ended up paying his own way for food and worked for free. He stayed close to shore and was only at sail for a few days but that was all he needed to confirm his wonderlust. This was the life he was meant for. Merek learned that one of the most valued positions on a boat was that of a medic as the longer voyages very rarely ended without incident and the skills of a quality healer were in great demand. This lead Merek to seeking out training in such skills eventually leading him to the Temple of Pelor whome he began to worship ardently. After serving on a number of vessels up and down the Sword Coast Merek finally got a spot on a vessel that was committed to a long term sail.
